For those of you have been to Europe for ADR surgery- can you tell me which hospitals allowed smoking indoors and were there non smoking areas indoors for non smokers. Someplace other than your room to get fresh air indoors?

This was my experience at the Rudolfinerhaus. Smoking was allowed in the main lobby. If you had a private room on the first floor - you could smoke in your own room. However, I think that one could smell the smoke on the first floor where the private rooms are no matter what. I was on the 2nd floor and did not notice any smoking nor did I smell it. 2nd floor are semi-private rooms.

St. Elisabeth Hospital in Straubing, Germany had two "lounges" on each ward - one smoking, one non-smoking (no smoking in the rooms). You could always go outside and smoke of course. The windows in the rooms also opened to get fresh air.

At St Elisabeth smoking was also allowed in the stairwells. As I recall the non-smoking lounge had windows that opened just like the smoking.

I was also in Vienna and was on the first floor. I do not know whether anyone smoked in their rooms. Smoking was allowed in the looby and I do know that the nurses (most of them smoked) could smoke in thier area. I could not believe that they could and when you walked out of the room you could smell it.
In Europe it seems you could smoke in just about everywhere. I never saw so many people who smoked.

Which also goes for the hotels. Wasn't anywhere to go get away from the smell of smoke.

However, as much as I hate the smell of smoke, body odor was in the running as number 1 smell there. Anyone know why its so rampant there, B.O. that is?

The Europeans simply don`t wash frequently Bill.
Eat loads fo Garlic etc which comes out in their perspiration.
AK has Air con and seperate rooms also, so this avoids this

Bill, that was also a major complaint of my husbands. I thought it was just him and forgot about it until you just mentioned it.

The Europeans frequently don't wash Bill? That's just as well, that might create some sort of bizarre international incident.

Now it's been some time since I traveled to Europe tho I used to go several times a year when traveling wasn't such a prob for me. What I noticed was that smoking and drinking was more of a social thing there (like in groups of teens) and B.O. also was more prevalent there as Alastair mentioned, bathing was not a daily function it seemed tho use of perfume/deodorant was more common in terms of cover up. That mixed with some cigarette smoke seemed to be a sure script for some stinkiness later in the day~
When I asked my friends there why they didn't bathe everyday they just said it wasn't necessary and or good for the skin...
