Hi. I started on 30 mg. of Avinza and due to my pathetic tolerance, my morphine sulfate dose wavers b/w 180-240 mg/day. I saw a doc who told me that I'm on too high of an opiate dose to get a rhinoplasty. (I found 3 articles on the biology of "tolerance" that are wonderful but don't know how to post them - mostly Calvin Cycle type of stuff by apppearance!).
I'm concerned: What if I have appendicitis. Would I be excluded from surgery? Or would this depend on the acumen of the anesthesiologist. Can I detox? How I wonder b/c I suspect that the pain would practically kill me. Or, if I move to suboxone (some literature shows that this doesn't have a tolerance problem), does the naltrexone part mean I can't have surgery? I think I spoke to one member who takes it and also Oxycontin for breakthrough pain which doesn't make sense b/c of the naltrexone component. I am open to ideas b/c I know that even if I have surgery, unless I have a pain mgt. doc by my side, I'll be improperly medicated post-surgery due to (maybe) a lack of prowess of the anesthesiologist and to bias' against chronic opiod therapy. Thanks for listening if you got this far. ![]() My best ~ ans

Allen, I don't think any of your meds will contraindicate you for surgery! And do try to keep your appendix, as it is an important part of your immune system. It carries slimy healthy flora for your GI tract! Have you had pains in that area, or was this is an arbitrary concern?
I wish I knew more about meds, their half-lives and toxic effects. However, there are many ways to get them out of your system; I can only give you a few proven remedies: 1. Sweating: exercise, saunas 2. Circulation: exercise again, but focusing on lymphatics through massage of even rebounding, which is especially effective in helping lymph flow through the system and out of the body 3. Diet: high fiber, enzyme-rich foods 4. Cleansing: liver, GI cleanses (yes, some of these are legit, I've done them) 5. Acupuncture: experienced practitioners know how to stimulate the liver & gall bladder to release junk & toxins 6. Naturopathic: better ones know these tips above, but would interview you to determine your needs, then prescribe the right mix of nutritional products for you. Note: see Phyliss Balch's "Nutritional Healing" which I often mention. Dunno if this helps, but I hope it does in some small way.
