Default am i screwed?

so as everyone knows, i had my 2nd two level disectomy and laminotomy(not a laminectemy). am i automatically screwed for chances to get an ADR? my spine doctor told me that it is always safer to do something minimally invasive first...and then consider a bigger procedure if it doesn't work out. i am now worried whether i wont be a candidate for adr. did anyone ever get a disectomy and a laminotomy and still get ADR?

sincerely

Raj,

I am no expert, I don't know for sure if it would be an absolute contraindication for you, Dr Boeree or whoever you go with will have the correct answer. A laminotomy does sort of muddy the waters a little. Here are some meeting minutes I found from 2008 where DePuy Spine was trying to clarify the laminectomy issue. It may be a problem, especially if there is any instability. You're going to need a good set of x-rays in addition to the MRI to determine this. There are pts that have had discectomies prior to ADR, just don't know about the laminotomy part.

I don't know if you're screwed or not, but do know that your prior procedures do not contraindicate ADR or fusion.

Other lumbar patients that have posted on this site have had discectomies and/or laminotomies and gone on to receive ADR at that level. Two current posters that have posted that they fall into that category are truck54 and Ouch2. I would encourage you to look up their histories.

I'd suspect that you'd be in trouble with any US doc trying to get an ADR after a laminotomy. It doesn't seem like it would be an absolute no-go criteria but I bet that you'll find that no insurance company would pay for it and docs will be reluctant to do it. Discetomies prior to ADR aren't a big deal and are common on this board. I'd try overseas surgeons simply from a cost and willingness to help standpoint.
