Not sure; but I have these type noises every once in awhile. Usually, they occur when I switch positions, then there is a pop and my pain goes up and stays up for a few hours. I have only had this happen for the first time a couple of months ago and it has happenned maybe 5 times total. As far as that correlating to DDD, I don't know....

Steve,

I had grinding and popping noises for several years before my surgery. I still get them once in a while due to the fact I still have one bad level.

So yes, it is common.

Ok, thx dave. yea, it seems my irritation and pain is worse when this is happening. Man, I just know my future holds an artificial disc surgery. Its so bad, Im so tired of fighting this. I dont want to run or exercise, I dont go out as much, and it just is ruining my life. I guess I need to get it done even though its pretty major surgery. Im heartened to see most ADR patients do much better after surgery.

Now, next step is to see if prodisc or pretige is the better disc. Both seem quite respected and successful.

Steve, the grinding/gravelly thing is really common in diseased spines. I get it in the neck when I turn my head mostly. Have facet degeneration at most levels there so to be expected I guess.
Most annoying and scary for me is the catching/weird moving feeling I get through my abdomen which I think is from the flexible Dynesys "rods" over my adr. I can sit on a chair and move my hips back and forth and replicate it indefinitely. My hubby has also heard it during the night. Weird!!!

I'm there with you Steve. I used to be a social butterfly, loved going places, seeing people, talking and social gatherings. Now, I stay home and avoid people. I don't plan anything, out of fear of getting into pain while out and needing to come home. I don't go anywhere, because I prefer to be at home while I am hurting. I don't even care for people to come to my house; because I really don't want them having to just sit and talk to me (and quite frankly, I am sick of trying to explain to people the degree of pain that I am in and that, No, it isn't any better.) It sucks, being this way.... I am thrilled that I found this site and am an ADR canidate, hopefully soon I will be on the other side, encouraging others. Kathy

Yup Kathy it sucks to be in chronic pain. And unless you've been in the desperate situation, where you've prayed to die, as the pain was so bad, you can't understand what we spiney's go through. There were many times when I just wanted to have God take me away. I though; "Gee, I've lived a good life, please take me now." And then the agony would continue and I would sit in tears. I walked with a cane for many, many months prior to my surgery so I could get around. It sure was miserable being all crippled up.

Today, I worked in the yard all day, cutting down perennials, getting ready for Winter to rear it's head in Michigan. I am hoping to maybe ski this season.

I sure hope the best for you Kathy and, will pray that you get the relief that many of us have found.

I take nothing for granted as I could be in the same situation again in my life. My facet joints could continue to degenerate and cause more misery.

Hang in there.
