Just read this article posted by Slackwater a few weeks back and it confirmed a few theories I had myself...unfortunately.
Since my 2 lumbar fusions Ive had relentless chronic LBP which has been difficult to isolate to a specific trigger.I"m very stiff with the fusions of course but there's an additional pain I suspect is the SIJ's.
I had a second series of bilateral SIJ injections 2 days ago as a diagnostic/pain relief aid. Results so far.....some good relief for the few hours till the local wore off then all hell broke loose! Absolutely no sleep the first night....massive sweats and restlessness and PAIN.
No improvement yet from the steroid component but other steroid injections have had no effect before so Im not overly confident.(hopeful!)
Actually I'm surprised the article only quoted a 20-30%? increase in SIJ pain after low lumbar fusion as I'm sure Ive read elsewhere (but can't quote where?) that the rate was as high as 75% which is a real worry.
Im watching with great interest the outcome of Cindylou's recent SIJ fusion as our stories and pain patterns are very similar, although with my lifelong scoliosis I do have other patholgies in the mix!
