I just wanted to say here that I have seen total recovery from back pain by patients taking Glucosamine. Its worth a try on the road to ADR.

A UK patient who was here, simply abandoned the road to ADR because this cured her symptoms

I want to hear more, Alastair, but I have to chuckle here. Knew I'd seen that 'glucosamine' before and racked my brain--turns out it's on my bag of NUTRO DOG FOOD, as being good for developing joints!! LOL

The level of proof necessary for animal supplements is much lower so they get the new ideas faster. Hyaluronic(sp?) acid was the new and fancy supplement a few years ago and they'd already been using it on horses for quite some time.

The efficacy seems so subjective, but the very existence of GAIT (and its goals) seem like a good thing!

The relevant article on the latest news is here.

You really need to take the advice of the manufacturer or what it says on the container. It's better to start off with a low dose and work your way up with these things. Best buy a fairly small amount to start with, in case they don't agree with you.
Best,
Alastair

I've been taking it for about 3 weeks now. I was advised by one of my specialists that it probably would NOT help with the ruptured disc. It's very good for the joints and preventing arthritis and helping with the pain of arthritis though.

Be aware that different brands have different amounts of glucosamine and different ingredients.

Glucosamine hydrochloride provides 30% more active glucosamine than some glucosamine sulphate products.

Also be aware that this product is derived from shellfish and if your allergic to this, then this product is not for you.

Although I was told this would probably NOT help me, I am willing to give it a go and thinking about it, I haven't had to take as many ibuforen based pain killers this week. That could be that I am just having a good week (which sometimes happens) or it could be the effect of the glucosamine.

Will keep you posted.

Our local doc suggested a minimum of 2000 milligrams to be effective for arthritic pain. You should work up to it though.

For what it is worth - I learned of the benefits of glucosomine from studying the care of horses in the early to mid 1990's. After back surgery in 1999, I got off pain pills by taking Knox's version of this stuff mixed with orange juice. It worked for me.
