Default Facet Injections 1 Level vs. 2 Level

Went to another Dr's office today and he wants me to get L 4/5 and L 5/S1 Bi Lateral Facet Injections. I previously had one Level done Bi Lateral injection done with no success. The Doc thought that that was in error and have a greater chance of success if both levels are done at the same time.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Facet diagnostic injections is a black art and a single failure may or may not really mean anything. If your symptoms and films both agree that facet arthritis is a likely culprit, then a second set is worth your time. I really have lost count of the number of diagnostic injections of different types Laura had before we finally got someone to just give up with the diagnostic work and accept her symptoms as being sufficient cause to try a rhizo.

Default Good luck

I responded to a second set of facet injections last week but it's been a while. It was a fairly profound relief that I hope you get. Or not, if you want an ADR.

If I got the facet injections could I still get a discogram within 1-2 months of each other?

I don't know of any reason why not. I'm no expert but you're not checking the same structure nor are you using the same kind of check. If you had a freak occurrence and the anesthesia hung around for a few months deadening the facets you might not get a good read on the discogram but if that were to happen you'd probably end up with a condition named for you and thousands of spine patients envying you for how long you were pain-free for a little lidocaine.

Ok, thanks.

I am getting L 4/5, L5/S1 bilateral facet injections and C5/6 facet injection on just one side next week.

The appoinment for an evaluation for a potential discogram is in a couple of weeks.
