Hi Melisa,
I have no experience with hypnosis for the treatment of pain. And I am making an assumption based on your previous posts that you are looking for relief of nerve pain that hasn't responded to surgery or other treatment modalities? I too suffer from the very same thing, post op fusion 4 yrs ago with no change in the pain that sent me to the doctors to begin with. I'm told by my surgeon that I have permanent nerve damage that didn't respond to surgical intervention? ![]() I think at this point your treatment routine would be so individualized due to the fact that not many people have your same problem. I would take a chance on anything (within reason) non-invasive that could potentially help with the sort of pain you are feeling. Hypnosis does help many people with a wide variety of problems as long as the patient "believes" it will help... I have considered both hypnosis and acupuncture as potential therapies. Unfortunately I am limited by finances and both forms of therapy require repeated visits and are not covered by my insurance. For now I work closely with an arthritis doc and we are tweaking pain meds and neurontin doses which seems to be helping some. The neurontin makes me goofy and forgetful but really does seem to be helping with the pain. But again I think every patient with our problem needs to find what works for them. We are indeed on the "fringe" as far as the medical community is concerned. And there just isn't a gold standard on how to deal with this sort of pain. Best of luck to you and if you DO decide to try the hypnosis I would be very interested in the outcome.

Giddayy Melissa
I am a clinical certified hypnotherapist who has had disc replacement too. Nearly three years ago infact, in Germany. Some people may remember me. Whenever I feel discomfort I hypnotize myself for relief. I imagine myself pouring ice cold water on the area that is aching. It acts like an instant fire being put out. This in turn dulls the pain, instead of it feeling like its on fire now it feels like the fire has been put out. It certainly helps on the bad days, but you really need to practice it in the beginning. If you are at your wits end and are desperate for some relief and you have really tried everything else, then it can work. But you have to want it. I was so impressed with my relief that I went back to school and became certified hypnotherapist to teach others this technique and other things too. Now remember it doesnt cure it, it just gives some much needed relief when needed. If you would like any more information please let me know.
