i plan to go back to work on a pt basis about first of December. The office has been great to me and they will work to my advantage. Just will have such a load when I get back I will have to make "me" pace myself. Cirobi - u have been such a sweetheart to answer all my questions and seems I have had many. May have more as time goes on. Will be trying to make it on my own at home during day starting Monday. It seems like I stay in bed a lot right now - try to get up and walk each hour. But I tire very easily and just get back in a prone position most of time. I hope I am up enough at a week out. Thanx again

Hi Polli, I'm glad my responses have been helpful. The first couple weeks post-op can be rough because of how easily you get tired. I think I managed to only nap a couple times in the first 1.5 weeks but that was mainly because I was stubbornly staying awake so I could definitely get a full night of sleep. Though I would get drowsy in the afternoon and cat nap a bit. I will say that it was nice to be able to sleep in while I was on disability leave. I'm not a morning person so getting back to that early wake-up routine for work was a shocker!

Pacing yourself throughout the healing process is what I personally think is a key element to a smooth recovery (even though there are many other factors that can help). It's so easy to get overwhelmed and impatient and wind up pushing yourself too hard too fast. I still have days where I'm sore enough to use my reusable ice pack at work and have to tell the users I support that I will get to their request after I ice my back.
