Default Leg Cramps & Quinine

It works for some people. I talked to a patient last week who is taking this product:

http://www.swansonvitamins.com/PS001/ItemDetail?n=4294967183

Of course, I was asking lot of questions like, “How does it work? Why does it help?” I am still wondering…with some tentative assumptions as to the hows and whys...

Here are some related topics that mention leg cramps and/or quinine:

foot cramping issue

Leg & Foot Cramps

Back pain/foot pain

Post op trouble

Default Didn't work for me

FWIW, I tried 2 different quinine compounds, taking each one 3+ weeks a few months ago without any success. Other methods have luckily produced results. I remain skeptical of the compounds, as they have not been rigorously tested. Perhaps there is some component of a placebo effect here.

Desperate times lead to my trial. Since I am only providing anecdotal evidence, this post can't be the end all. However, I'm not aware of clinical trials showing a benefit versus placebo, either.

Just my .02.

Quinine in the form of plain old tonic water (as in gin and tonic but without the gin) was suggested after my shoulder surgery for muscle spasms. It didn't seem to work, however.

That was my suggestion: try tonic water for a short while and see if your symptoms change. If it helps a little, talk with a doctor about higher dose quinine. If it helps a lot, stay with the tonic water. Though it might have helped more if added the gin to it

My mother swore by this, and used to go to the States for it all the time (from Canada).

I found Magnesium tablets to really work well also, and are much cheaper and easier to get.
