Default Methadone

Hello everyone, has anyone had experience with Methadone for pain relief ? I have been on Norco for about 9 months and it is slowy losing it's effect for pain relief. I was told Methadone works well for pain and will be a help with any addiction issue from the opiates. If any one has used Methadone and had good or bad experience let me know.

Cheers Sean

Default methadone addiction

I have worked with drug users who take methadone as a substitute for heroin and they report that it is just as to withdraw from it as heroin. In 4 years I have not known any able to reduce totally from their methadone dose. It could be argued that this is due to other factors which influence their drug taking but even in the most stable of clients they have only managed to get onto a small maintenance dose.

Default methadone

Yes Thank You it looks like it is highly addictive , and would lead into problems down the road. I was just thinking if I could switch out my meds so not have to increase the dosage for the same result not to build up a tolerrence with any one drug. I find the Norco is not as effective as it was 9 months ago. I think switching to any other opiate will probably not lower the dosage of the first drugs effectiveness.

Cheers Sean

Default pain meds

I found a pharmacist really helpful when my pain meds weren't effective. They've advised on combinations of drugs and dosages to take. My doctor has been happy to prescribe what has been suggested. This has worked better for me than when I have seen specialist pain management doctors. I have a plan for reacting to pain episodes that aren't dealt with by my standard meds.

Default Weaning Off of Methadone

I successful took myself off methadone after ADR. You must do it very slow. Withdrawal occurs five to fifteen days after. The slower and more disciplined you are (taking yourself off) the easier the withdrawal will be.
