I just had c5/6 Prestige two weeks ago. Just trying to understand how nerves heal. When they say your nerve has to heal after decompression, where does it have to heal? Is it at the herniated disc site? or is it everywhere there is pain? or is is the length of the arm? or some or all of these? Just trying to understand how it all works. If the herniated disc and bone spur in your neck causes pain in the shoulder and down the forearm, is it inflammed the whole way down the arm, which would cause it to get caught in different places such as shoulder that would cause more pain in those areas? That was clear as mud I know, but don't know how to ask it any different. Hopefully you understand.

It is generally inflamed at the site of the problem and sends the pain down the length of the nerve and back to the brain. If it's been stomped on for any period of time it takes a long time to heal. I would suggest Lyrica as this is a good medication for the actual nerve pain.

You weren't so cryptic as you thought as I followed your logic all the way. I've definitely been there . It hurts.

Hang in there.

FYI, after my ADR surgery (cervical - 3) I didn't feel any immediate improvement in my radicular symptoms. However, some months later, I noticed it all gradually started to improving and over several months has become much, much better.
