Perhaps not everyone has heard about Neurography. I thought I'd post some info here in case someone might find it helpful. You guys can decide for yourselves whether it's anything that you think might help.

Dr. Aaron Filler is a neurosurgeon in Cali. who has invented a new MRI method called Neurography. It is capable of imaging nerves very well. Regular MRI's are unable to see any nerves once they leave the immediate area of the spine.

www.neurography.com

For example, a few of his success stories are patients who had incurable back and/or leg pain. They went through several back surgeries only to find out that there is a nerve impingement from a benign tumor or pinched nerve that the regular MRI couldn't "see".

So far it looks like the only locations are in California and Pennsylvania.

Be prepared though, he is openly skeptical of implant surgeries due to conflicts of interest and the financial gain the surgeon benefits from when she/he choose to prescribe an implant (i.e. ADR) to a patient.

Hope this helps someone out there,
Trish

Thx Trish, great minds think alike! If you look in the Cutting Edge forum, you will see that I did a Q & A with Dr Filler in July of 2006. By now, they have many more imaging locations...see the Q & A:

this seems very cool, but I doubt it can help those who already have an ADR implanted in them.

People with ADR are not allowed to receive MRIs

FYI

Zorro, this is incorrect. ADR is NOT a contraindication for an MRI.

(Sorry, this is the second time I have seen you post this inaccurate statement.)

Justin

I've heard that people with ADRs CAN still have an MRI? Perhaps someone, Harrison?, can confirm it.

Regards, Trish

Sorry Justin, I didn't see your comment before I wrote a reply to Zorro.

Zorro, I think maybe you're thinking of people with cages, and other forms of fixation devices.
Regards,
Trish

well I'm baffled. then why do they stress no metal in the MRI room? How can you get an MRI with a large piece of metal in you? BTW where have you read this? christ. I'm in need of a new one and had been led astray to think otherwise.

Oh I haven't seen any PMs in my inbox.

I don't know Zorro. It's just what I've heard from my surgeon.

I guess it's because it's a special alloy that is not too magnetic, it's deep inside the body, but most of all, it's so small. The endplates are the only metal. Right?

Oh, and finally, I've heard of a ton of people having their ADR placement confirmed by MRI.

Go figure.

the key word here is magnetic the end plates are not magnetic hence one can receive mri but mind you the filming in the area of the end plates will be blurry. if the end plates were magnetic they would rust as they would contain iron. and we couldnt have that.
