For a few months, I've been having neck pain whereby if I turn my head side-to-side I can hear (barely) a grinding sound/feeling like crepitus.

Sounds stupid but should I see a doctor only if I'd consider surgery or would an MRI (if needed) be a good idea regardless.

I think I know the answer to this question. Re: I don't want to deal with more trouble.

Happy Thanksgiving, Allan

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now that the feast is over, you should have the cervical spine checked out. If your x-rays and MRI are OK, you may need to see a chiropractor and/or massage therapist. I know that I experienced varying levels of shoulder, arm, and neck pain prior to my ADR. All of my reports showed a healthy cervical spine, so it was a response to the issues in my lumbar and my compensatory movement.

It probably isn't serious enough to be something that needs surgery.

We all get things that can be solved with a bit of massage and some exercises etc....

See the doctor, physio or similar and take it from there, find out what the problem is and take it from there.

Allan,
Mention it to your OSS and see about getting an MRI if needed, otherwise getting some PT as someone here mentioned already.

I imagine being as busy as you are with studies and clinicals you might hold a fair amount of tension in the cervical upper and lower back area.. probably a referral to PT and perhaps a good masseuse might be very helpful~
