This is disturbing to me. I wonder if I can offshoot osteoporosis by taking more Ca+ tablets. I sensed these drugs were too good to be true.

This is not good news for those with stomach problems and osteoporosis. I wonder if a warning will be made official for PPI medications soon.

After a gastroscopy and colonoscopy 4 years ago, my specialist put me on Pariet. (don't know if it has a different name in the States)for reflux.
Before my ADR surgery in July I had a Dexa scan which showed Osteopenia in the hip. I was a bit alarmed as I've taken calcium supplements for years. I didn't realise there was a connection with the reflux med. Consequently, I've stopped the Pariet and am taking a digestive enzyme supplement and aloe vera juice before meals and my symptoms have just about disappeared. Does anyone know if lost bone can rebuild without taking prescription meds such as Fosamax?

Unfortunatley my daughter (21 years old) has been diagnosed with this she actually is a -3.7 in most of her bone tests. Since she is so young they put her on a combination vitamin of 4000 mg daily of calicum and 1000 mg of vitamin D3. We can only get this at the doctors office I have looked all over the net for this combination pill and cannot find it.
I hope this helps. Judy

okay cathydownunder, i'm curious what is the name of this digestive enzyme supplement and is there something special about the aloe vera juice? name of it?
I am on a PPI due to too much anti inflammatory meds and still waiting for ADR surgery soo getting little worried about bones. Last dexa scan was good but who knows by the time the FDA and ins companies get their act together!

LBP,aloe vera juice is readily available over the counter here in many brands. It's a colourless and mostly tasteless liquid. I take 30mls before meals. It's supposed to soothe the lining of the stomach and intestines, helps digest food, is anti-inflammatory.
The digestive enzyme I was recommended is called Pro-Gest by Somme? It's unavailable here in Aus, but you can get it in the States, so I'm taking a different brand called Digestaid. Like you I've had many years of NSAID'S use and my stomach and liver have been objecting! I'm hoping I can reverse a little of the damage, and am also being very careful and never taking my meds on an empty stomach. Hope this helps. Judy, that's a terrible diagnosis for a 21 y/o.Does she have a medical condition that's caused such marked bone loss? Has she been on steroids or asthma sprays?. I hope she's able to reverse it with the high doses of supplements she's taking.

Yes to both. She had asthma as a child but has not had any issues in about 4 years. We are hoping that it maintains itself and not get any worst. It is terrible and you try telling a 21 year old to be very careful, I am afraid her bones are going to start to break. She does not takes her supplements daily as she is suppose to.
We just found out that she is highly allegic to soy and needs to carry around an eppi pen just in case. Again I am afraid she won't always have it one her. She has had a reaction to getting one petzel (hives all over) and when we read the ingredients turned out soy in them. It seems everyone is starting to put soy in their products so we must read everything prior to her eating it. She is also allegic to nuts now. She rarely ate them as a kid and has eaten peanut butter and honey roasted peanuts for awhile and no reaction. It is mostly walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts. It is getting to the point that she can't eat anything without looking at the ingredients. Off the subject but they also think her body is not absorbing the calcium due to her IBS. Judy
