Default Sacroiliac joint fusion

Hi all, I am new to the site and very excited I have found it.

My wife is due to have the first of two sacroiliac joint fusions next month. I am just hoping to find some people who have had this operation and hear their story and hopefully successfull outcome.

All help and responses extreamly appreciated

Many Thanks
Ryan.

Ok, My wife is 32 years old and we have a 9 yer old daughter. One morning in september 07 she woke up in horrific pain in her back and when she tried to get out of bed she fell. Hospital appointmens followed along with physiotherapy (Im from the uk) and the physio diagnosed SIJ dysfunction, the consultant then confirmed this and gave my wife a SIJ Injection, this releived her from pain for approx 8 months, then it came back more aggressive and she fell down the stairs. She has had CT scans, MRI scans, Nuclear bone scan.

Consultant was trying to decide if it was now dysfunction or sacroilitis (inflamation), another SIJ Injection was given (by registrar this time) and this made her worse (we believe he messed up with the injection). This then caused confusion as the whether is was SIJ problem or not so we were sent to a neurology centre for pain management, this did not help so refered back to ortho consultant. She was then tested for Rheumatoid athritis, ankylosing spondlytis, sero negative arthritis, all of which came back negative.

We managed to persuade consultant to give another SIJ Injection as he was reluctant due to what happed with her second injection. After the thrid injection her condition did improve in as much as she came out of her wheelchair and was on crutches. Consultant then did another MRI to rule out inflamation and confirmed Bilateral sacroiliac joint dysfunction and aggreed to perform 2 fusion operations, which we are now waiting for.

Hope this helps, sorry its so long winded.

Ryan

What about PRP or Regenexx injections to regenerate SI joint before radical surgery?

Thanks for the reply Rob, I dont think PRP would be of any real help as the problrm is one of mechanics, the joint is not in the correct allignment. As for the regenex, that is not something I have knowledge on, it has not been mentioned to us but it sounds expensive and I doubt our NHS service would fund it.

Default One more..

Rob, that was a good idea. These regenerative technologies are interesting, promising but still a bit tricky in terms of indications.

Ryan, in case you didn't see CindyLou's topic:

Perhaps you could PM her...give her my best!
