Laura finally got SI joint rhizo after about four years after her L5S1 Charite and continues to deal with minor pain some 8 years or so after the ADR. Currently, she's able to control the pain with heat and every other month prolotherapy.

Hi Vic
I had a Maverick disc surgery done at L4/5 along with an ALIF at L3/4 here in Queensland in 2006 so consider myself a bit of an "old timer" too. My disc is also off centre, but was placed that way to compensate for my scoliosis. I had a revision surgery in 2008 but still have SIJ ( we think) pain as well. Have you had any relief from the SIJ injections? mine only give relief while the local anaesthetic is active but apparently that's enough to make them considered a pain generator. What does your surgeon have to say? many orthos still believe SIJ's dont/can't cause pain so will be interested to hear what you've found. Cathy

Hi cathy
I've not had any facet or SI joint injections for a few years now, but even back then they generally did not do anything for me Most proffesionals I've spoken to have all swayed towards the pain being generated ftom the SI joint area This can be mild pain over the sacrum area, to quite bad burning pain which includes tingling of the legs etc It is something which has not gone away since surgery, but after a while you sort of get over it eh? What sets mine off is usually walking slowly & standing in one spot for a period of time, so, sometimes it seems like I have adhd, always moving, always adjusting how I sit or lay etc This is how I live my life now, but shouldn't complain, I can still walk, if you think bout it long enough, walking is gift Vic

Hi Vic,
Yes, SIJD is an often overlooked and underdiagnosed problem IMHO. After my L5/S1 fusion I was unable to walk. The mechanics were off and I just could not walk with an even gait and certainly not any appreciable disantance. It was thought that my hardware was the culprit so I had it removed approximately 10 months post-fusion and this caused further destruction and what I now know is SIJD. SIJD at its extreme is horribly debilitating. In my case the burning nerves (when my pelvis is out of alignment) is bad enough but the inability to walk without knees giving out or entire legs going numb to the point that I just drag them along. I have finally found some good resources for this and have explored surgical options but I am still in the decision making process. Walking is indeed a gift. One that I miss dearly.
