Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with upper back pain? I have discomfort in the middle of my upper back. I walk everynight anddo so stretches but i have a long drive to work and sit in an office for long periods.

I couldn't find a thread so if there is one out there let me know. Thanks!

Hey JB

I know the feeling, I had upper back pain and it turned out it was actually coming from the neck.

It is good you walk and stretch after sitting so much in the office.

I would make sure your chair and desk at work are not doing you any damage and perhaps see a physio to be sure you are doing the right stretches for the problem you have.

JB,

You may have seen this thread I started a while back. Please ignore my whining there, but Jo et al offer some good advice...there's a few good links there too.

Yes take a broomstick behind your back one arm will hold the handle at the top; palm facing anterior, the opposite arm will be holding the bottom of the handle with the palm facing posterior, just roll the broom back and forth and up and down the muscles along the spine,

Another way is to grasp a bar ( use a smith machine any gym/fitness center will have one; What you basically need is an item in front of you about mid-thigh, have your hands wrapped around the bar thumbs on the same side as your fingers in otherwords do not wrap your thumb around the bar, lean forward into the bar, with your knees bent and extended and being on your toes then concentrate on squeezing the upper back muscles as you turn your torso from side to side, BUT making sure you hold your torso still, while in the contracted position. These are the best two ways to get into those tight upper back muscles and to stretch them out.

Tried the stretches on the link but they were that helpful to me. I have a massage tonight so maybe that will help. I will keep looking for more I guess.

Maybe you should stick at them for a bit longer, the effects won't be immediate.
