Member # 101 posted 02 May, 2005 04:50 AM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------I just returned from Bogen for a cervical ADR with Dr. Bertagnoli and thought I'd mention a few things we learned. First, the hospital information brochure implies that the Am Platzl is the only hotel in Bogen. Just down the street from is the Hotel Post, which we were told was 'acceptable' and between the two is the Pension Schreiber, which we found to be excellent. It is definitely a small hotel experience but the rooms didn't smell of cigarette smoke (we're extremely allergic) and we're nicely funished. If know enough German for TV, the television is small, but other than that, we were impressed. The owner does not speak English, but with a little help from a transplanted Kiwi we met on the train to Bogen we managed to handle checking in. Checking out wasn't a problem, but the price was so low (41 Euro per night) that I paid in cash so I don't know about which credit cards they take. It's email address is Pension-Schreiber@t-online.de and phone is 94 22 80 69 93. The address is Stadtplatz 23, 94327 Bogen but it is right between the Am Platzl and the Hotel Post and its name is written on the wall above the arch leading to it.If you read German or can find a translator, Bogen has a website for the town:
http://www.itcwebdesigns.com/tour_ge...ing_region.htm The website includes a fairly good map but printing it looks to be difficult. I have a printed map that I'll try to scan. For those worried, the pharmacist/apothecary (pick your term) that the hospital recommends speaks English and is willing to open after hours.I know the general advice given is to drive from Munich to Bogen. Having ridden in a car there, I resist strongly the idea of driving in Germany and so took the train with no problems. Returning, we stayed overnight in Freising and took the bus from the Freising bus/train stop to the airport.Reply from a member - - - I found no problems driving whatsoever. We drove all over with no problems. I was over in January and we even drove up in the mountains. It is very easy to get around. annapurna Member Member # 101 posted 02 May, 2005 04:46 PM Linda has a good point about the driving. German roads are very good and, for someone who is a good driver there should be no problems. I'm not the world's best driver, so, I'm a bit intimidated by the German drivers who drive very very well and quite fast. For me, mass transit is the way to go, and the German mass transit system is probably one of the best in the world. If you're a good driver and enjoy driving, you will probably really enjoy motor-touring in the Bogen area.
