Fred,

I've had four levels done, but they were in three different surgeries over a ten year period; two fusions and two ADRs.

From what I've read of Dr Bertagnoli, he's probably done four at once before; I've seen people on this form in which he's done three levels at once.

I would encourage you to quiz him thoroughly. How many four levels has he done? What special precautions are required for a four level compared to a triple or double ADR? What is the impact on me the patient having so much done at once? etc... With such a major surgery, he shouldn't mind some intense questioning.

Good luck, Jeff

Bertagnoli replaced every level in someone's C-spine with a mix of ADR and fusion a while back. You're not going to have a fun time in recovery but it can be done.

BTW, in our experience Fenk-Mayer, one of the other surgeons in Bertagnoli's office, is often better at answering questions. Don't take it wrong if she starts answering questions because she'll generally have a little more time to give you answers. The whole office is very slow to reply to email but Fenk-Mayer tends to answer more completely and may step in to answer questions even if you wish to get your surgery with Bertagnoli.
