Question About to have ADR on C4 & C6 Cage onC 5

Hi,
I am scheduled for this month to receive ADR's (ProDisc-C) on C4 & C6 and cage fusion on C5.
I cannot find any real current results for ProDisc-C, although my surgeon is the developer and pioneer of this ADR.
Can anyone inform me of 1-3 year recuperation results and success of a three level or a site that may contain patient’s recovering from this kind of surgery?
Thanks,
Lefty 10/31/11

Lefty,

I don't know the answer to your question, but I've seen both successful and unsuccessful three level ProDisc-C surgeries. If the surgeon you're referring to is Dr Zigler (who was a lead on the FDA IDE for the ProDisc, but not a developer), then you're going to have a successful outcome. Who is your surgeon? And when is your surgery?

Good luck, Jeff

Hi, I have not had surgery yet, but a lot of people on here are saying to give a lot of consideration to the M6 disk. I think the Freedom disc is very similar to the M6. Unfortunately, you'll have to go out of the country. There is a clinical trial for the Freedom in the US, but it's for one-level only with no adjacent segment problems.

Hope that helps some; and good luck in your research

Hi Jeff,
Am scheduled for surgery with Rick Delemarter at Cedars Sinai in LA. Good things have been said about his abilities, just can't find any recent bblogs. He's aggressive And I just can't seem to find recent surgery blogs on his ADR work.
Any help is appreciated.
Lefty

Lefty,

Dr Delmarter's name has come across this forum a handful of times, and I've never seen him spoken ill of. However, seeing him posted about only a handful of times is a very small sample. I know that he has a very good reputation as a researcher and surgeon. That's 100% of what I know about him.

Perhaps someone else here knows more about Dr Delmarter and his experience with three level cervical ProDisc replacement?

I've only seen one patient undergo a three level cervical ProDisc. While he experienced no pain, the surgery was not a complete success, with at least one level having to be revised due to subsidence. Here is a link to his surgical outcome post. Dr Bertagnoli was his surgeon. I do not know what his eventual outcome was; but you should be able to PM him.

Please keep us posted, and good luck, Jeff

Lefty,

Dr Zigler works out of Texas Back Institute in Plano, TX (suburban Dallas). He performs surgery at Presbyterian, which is next door.

Good luck, Jeff

Default Lefty,

My crappy 2 cents worth would be NOT to get a prodisc, if you can help it. Everyone is different, but the design is clunky and the keels are very big. I wish so much I did not have one prodisc but it is working so things could be worse.
