Yesterday, at the invitation of Dr. Regan, I particiapted in the filming of a news segment focusing on Artificial Disc Replacement surgery for NBC. The primary focus of the segment is to expose the audience to this new procedure, the Charite device, and offer it as a promising alternative to fusion.
The interviewer was Dr. Bruce Hensel. He has been a contributor to several NBC news stations (LA, Chicago, DC, etc.) with these little 3-4 minute medical and health segments for many years. Yesterday "Dr. Bruce" was primarily focusing on filming Dr. Regan describe the medical aspect of the Charite device, as well as candidates who could be helped by the procedure. Dr. Bruce also spent some time interviewing two of Dr. Regan's patients: me (as the patient who is about to have the procedure) and "Dann" (as the patient who had the procedure 9 months ago). Later this week they are going to film Dann surfing pain-free in Malibu. Two weeks from now, on the day of my surgery, NBC will be in the operating room with cameras rolling for those bloody action shots of Dr. Regan working his magic. Then a few weeks after my procedure, Dr. Bruce will be conducting the "after" interview, while trying to get shots of me doing something productive and pain-free (I don't know about surfing - - maybe just getting the bathing suit on unassisted should be my accomplishment). Ultimately, I was told these clips all get edited together to make a 3-4 minute segment that Dr. Bruce then provides to the local NBC Channel 4 news station in Los Angeles, as well as a few other affiliated NBC stations throughout the country. -Jeff |

Jeff,
Wish they could include a segment about me and others. "ADR Gone Bad". The flip side of a Dr. Regan operation, surgery done at Stenum. Showing me, one year later trying to get a swimsuit on. No, no one in America would want to see that, but maybe me trying to put my shoes on in the morning. But, hey, its wonderful that NBC will highlight ADR and how much it is helping. Can't wait to see you waltzing around post-ADR on national television!!! |

Terrific! Hopefully your exposure (newswise not physically) will draw some positive attention and greater medical approval to ADR. I plan on heading to the beach with my ADR soon.
