I am 11 weeks post op for 2 ADR's (L4-5 and L5-S1). Prior to surgery I had severe burning in my ankles and feet. After the surgery the burning is less. Now it is more of a tingling and muscle twitching in my ankles and feet. This is aggravated by lots of stretching and sitting. Has anyone had similar experiences? Will it go away? I have been told that nerves can take 1 to 2 years to heal.

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,
That sounds like a typical healing thing after ADR- - - give yourself 6 months- - maybe a bit longer if you are a slow healer -- - its a HUGE major surgery and loads of little muscles, ligaments, blood vessels, nerves have all been affected- - your body will heal itself if you let it
Best

Rob,

Forgive the pun, but these post-op questions are nerveracking! I believe what you were told is absolutely true -- nerves may take 1-2 years to heal. Compounding this process may be the "settling" of all the ligamental structures of the spine.

Learning how to breathe, relax, stretch and frequent massages are all important in the first year of recovery. Be well.

Rob,

My feet started tingling at week 12 when I took off my brace and started moving more. I am now at 6 months and can say that it has all but faded and gone away. I also had a warm feeling in my left leg/foot which also went away.
For me the 4-6 month period brought new nerve issues but all are going away slowly. Still very happy about my ADR experience.
