Default Can ADR cause deg. scoliosis and bone spurs?

I had the Charite ADR in June of 2005 at L5-S1, with no other known problems. I started having facet problems two years ago, and had a facet ablation this summer which has helped with the pain. So I know this device can create other problems.

Now, I am having a new problem with degenerative scoliosis and a bone spur at T12-L1. I have never been diagnosed with scoliosis or any other back problems. Could this be caused by the ADR? Is it possible that this device is causing problems that far up my spine?

I am a healthy 38-year old and would appreciate any comments.

It's pretty unlikely that an ADR at L5S1 led to problems at T12-L1. Why did you need the ADR originally? It might be that you had one bad level to start with but multiple levels that were okay but not great. Did you have your bone density checked prior to your ADR surgery? There's a really low likelihood chance of the Charite producing plastic wear particles or metal ions that would affect your spine but it wouldn't make much sense for it to cause what you've mentioned without also affecting your SI and hips.

I originally needed the ADR due to herniated and degenerative disc at L5-S1. I had no other known spinal problems at the time. I did have a CT scan before the ADR, but no bone density test. I was 32 at the time of surgery.

Default ADR's/DDD

For what it is worth, I have severe DDD throughout the lumbar spine. I have had consults with 2 neurosurgeons and an ortho all refused to fuse and said ADR only route due to potential transitional segment dx.

I don't know if it " causes it but Ai do know ADR are less likely to cause damage or at least take longer than a fusion.
