Right then....barely introduced to the forum and I'm already making a spectacle of myself, but lack of info on cervical ADR in Europe calls me to wave my flag and call for help: anterior C6-C7 fusion, now facing ADR in C5-C6 after failed perctaneous nucleotomy.
I want to hear your stories, both fairy-tale and horrific--and I welcome yor ruminations, both hopeful and desperate. Here or in PM, you'll find me. Personally, I'm considering Germany....Ring my bell (ooh, really bad late 80's tune!). Trace |

Laura (Annapurna; this is her husband instead) visited both Bertagnoli and Jan Goffin at Catholic Univertsity in Leuven in Belgium near Brussels (please forgive mangled spelling) to talk about cervical ADR. She ended up with the Prodisk C from Bertagnoli rather than the Bryan disk based on her opinion of the two disks. The discussion trip was in Nov 2003 and she finally passed the self-imposed decision point and went for the surgery last spring. Feel free to PM if you like to hear her impressions of Goffin or the Leuven visit. Bertagnoli and the various disks have been discussed many times here.

Thanks; PM was sent and hope she's doing well! I hate to ask people to repeat, butI know relatively nothing about either doctors or disks. Where to start?

It is a bit strange that there is so little european info on ADR..after all it was in Europe it started.
And a french spine surgeon... Thierry Marnay was a leading person in development of the prodisc. Google him Trace. So there should be plenty of French info on cervical adr. The Mobidisc cervical is also french, the second generation artificial disc. The Europeans are those who have the most experience on ADR. I would be very interested to hear how Cervical ADR stands in France Trace. ADR is not so aggressively marketed in Europe as in the U.S. perhaps...WHY? Many questions from a fellow cervie. I have many questions and few answers |

I would suspect that ADR isn't aggressively marketed in Europe for the same reason that plastic knee replacements aren't in the USA: they've been around for long enough that they've become an accepted part of the bag of tricks and marketing isn't as needed. Cervical ADR is new, but still available in Europe for several years.

There is lots of info on ADR in Europe - but it's in German and French. If you can read or get translation, try googling 'prothese discale' and bandscheibenprothese.
