Well, Mark MMglobal and I arrived in Munich on Time and had a car waiting for us from the hotel.
We got to Straubing pretty quick (no speed limits)settled into our room and decided later to go down to the town square. We took a short cab ride and ended up at a pub/food type place. The
girl that waited on us spoke about as much english
as I did German but then she brought the bartender over to our table and before you knew it
I had a nice large salad with apple strudle for dessert.
WELL NOW THE FUN PART The next morning we were off to the hospital to check me in, got to my room
and had my pick of beds because my roommate hadnt got there yet.
They took some blood from me and a little while later DR. Bertagnoli stopped by and spent some quality time with Mark and I. He had explained the
mixup about my age and assured me we would be going with 3 prodisc in my surgery. (YAY) The next
thing after DR. Bertagnolis visit I was on my way
for a Scan that I had to lay on a table with a pad under my back that was unconfortable, it really bothered me.
Went back to my room with the nurses in my rolling bed and a while later the nurse came in with a electric shaver to shave the hair(not much)
from the area of my soon to be incision. I also
had a meeting with the anesthetic doctor who assured me he had 20 years expeience.
Iwas wheeled into surgery pre op and was told that they were giving me a shot of an opiate in my IV and then put a gas mask close to my face.
The doctor said take some deep breaths and as I was about to say "I'm not feeling anything" the next thing you knew they were waking me up saying
"surgerys over" I went into this with that attitude "put me to sleep and wake me whens its over"
I was taken to ICU after waking but because the German Doctors are very careful when an American
or anyone I imagine they were reluctant to place me on the pca pump for pain, so when all of my meds had worn off I was in LIVING HELL of pain
until the morning when Mark Explained to them the
levels of pain meds I was On ,then finally the PCA
pump and what a major relief. I understand they were only being carefull but it was a VERY tough nite.
Thursday I made my way to the bathroom to wash up a litle but still haven't a bowl movement so I'm still on the liquid diet.
Friday 5th day post (I think) still no BM but mashed potatoes and gravy plain yogurt (yuk)
Sat 6 day post op got to take a real shower, felt great but still no BM, my stomach had been bloated from gas even though I had been given meds for that. I was taken for xray to make sure there was no blockage, everything ok and I Finally
took Sh*(t,notice the big smile on my face in the picture.
Food sucks mashed potatoes, soup, soup, and more
soup. Some bread and applesauce. Finally some fruit yogurt, Mark brought me a Mc Donalds pie and some Muesli cereal. I felt better day by day.
Take some of your favorite cereal and unless you like soap with oil in it take your own. Also a large bath towel is a good thing to take, they have
smaller sizes, The hospital was great as far as service and cleanleness.
I was on my feet the second day and walking a
little at a time every day after. I'm doing great and if Ileft out something I'll blame it on my meds which I'm already taking 2or3 less pills aday for the last 2 days. Many thanks again to
my new friend Mark ******* and to Dr. Bertagnoli
and his staff. I feel great.Ill be happy to answer
any questions, just email me.
Oh I almost forgot the plane flight was a bit of a challange but we had a bulkhead seat on our return. Mark Knows all the gory details about my surgery so you will have to ask him as I was In dreamland.
