Default Dr. Boeree patients

Can anyone whose already been to Dr. Boeree give me any recommendations for lodging.
If you stayed somewhere that wasn't very accommodating, can you let me know that too.
The few places I have checked don't have three weeks of time open. Don't want to stay at the Holiday Inn. They allow smoking.
Any help would be appreciated. You can PM me this info if preferred. Would like reviews as to nice or not so nice.
Thanks

Hi Vicki,

I stayed at the Hilton in Southampton, but it was merely ok. The food was sub par.

I'd hop on trip advisor and check out some of the hotels in Winchester - it'll be more interesting and easier to walk around in post-op.

Default Eastleigh motels

When I went in October 2009, Holiday Inn-Southampton in Eastleigh was the best bet for location, price, and amenities. We found the food there typically "English" (see comments below); however, we didn't lose any weight.

Nancy D., still there post-surgery last week, spent one night at the Priemer in Eastleigh and there was no room phone. She's moved to a delightful place in Winchester with a cathedral view.

You have to keep in mind that, in general, English foods suck for our North American taste buds. We ate at the hotel and tried several places around town and while visiting Winchester; we weren't impressed with any of them .. for our tastes. Friends who've extensively traveled in England warned us that this would be true. However, their coffee is generally excellent.

English hotels, even with an international name (i.e, Holiday Inn), are not like hotels/motels in the US -- unless you have some serious bucks to spend. The rooms are much more compact and many amenities we're used to having for free cost extra .. such as internet access. However, Holiday Inn rooms were clean and kept clean. All of the staff (front desk, food services, and room maintenance) was very friendly and very helpful.

I recommend putting hospital access the most important thing. Go for a
"tiwn" room (meaning two single beds) for the maximum patient comfort post-surgery. FYI - "double room" means one double bed.

Hi Marti,

Nick said you'd be a good person to speak to as I try to seek reimbursement for my lumbar ADR back here in Canada... I'm not sure I'll be very successful though!

I'll counter your food assertion with:

1) Sunday Roast
2) Curry
3) Fish & Chips
4) The Chilworth Arms - an excellent restaurant reasonably close to Eastleigh

England excels at these food options!

I agree with Marti on the close to hospital front, but I really wanted some better streets for walking post surgery as the hotel got pretty boring. I've spoken to a few patients that stayed in Winchester and loved the walks. I was stuck at an intersection of major motorways at the Hilton and the food was uncharacteristically bad, even for England. The Wessex Hospital food was top notch, mind you!

I stayed at the Potters Heron. I was on the verge of homelessness at home so I didn't really give two ****s where I stayed, but it was the same price as the chain motels and quite nice, I'd recommend it, espescially if you're at a more reasonable age for reconstructive spinal surgery and going with a partner and want to make a trip of it.

lol Banny, stick to the pies mate! The Poms make some bloody good pies and nice warm pubs to eat them in. If it wasn't for the whole back surgery deal I could've just stayed indoors on piss and pies for 3 weeks.

I wasn't aware of the food issues.
That's gonna stink. My dad was a chef, my daughter is a pastry chef, and I love to cook.
Maybe I should take a suitcase of US foods...lol

Thanks for the replies.
