for my l4-l5, whch has a mild bulge. l5-s1 is dessicated with a central annular tear. I am going to ask that a discogram not be done at the l5-s1. The mri is pretty clear that that is the culprit, I don't want to flare up and have to bedrest longer than I need to. But I want to see if I need the l4-l5 to be replaced as well. I saw regan today, and he says I have a good probability of sucess since I have had no prior surgeries and my facets / si joints are in pretty good shape
wish me luck

Dylan, if L5-S1 is thought to be the culprit, then they would probably have to inject that bad boy to see if it reproduces the symptoms -- or concordant pain.

One benefit for me was that the procedure "puffed up" the disc for me a bit, and I felt really good for a week!

I've also wondered why in other cases, the "disco docs" will inject meds like lidocaine to numb the area for a while; in mine they did not. It may be worth asking about.

Let us know how it goes!

If they don't do L5-S1 they will have to do L3-4 to have a control disc that generates no pain at all. I haven't heard of only one disc being done, but I doubt they would.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Has anyone had a disc that did not hurt at all during the discogram? I felt a pretty severe pressure on all of them. It was like a rock being forced in the disc. It was very tolerable until they hit L5/S1.

Hi Dylan,

I think your making a very smart decision by having the discogram done.

I came off the table several times (when I had mine done all three times).

However, I would do a 100 of them instead of the EMG. Boy did I hate having to go through that.

Good luck. Your in our (my wife and I) prayers. Please let us know the outcome.

Take care,

I'll take an EMG over a discogram any day!

I know that Dr. Michael Wang from USC is doing Charite'. I've met with him about *** clients.

I don't know Jeffrey Wang from UCLA.
