hey karen, i am sorry regarding the walker. i was on the walker when i had the infection. it was the worse pain i ever had hence i had the surgery. i was on the walker for roughly a month. i hated it. i was only 28. but every week i was making progress. now i am walking sometimes with a cane...most of the times without. now feeling kind of unstable. i think i am still healing from the laminectomy. i am still doing research to see what is the best choice for me.
beaner, i know what you are saying about being uninformed. i felt that way when i was rushed into the emergency for the infection. i had one day to read up on what was the best treatment (which was not even enough as far as research was concerned). but the lami was done to save my life supposedely. u know a fusion isn't so bad if it is done at the L5S1 level. majority of ur motion comes from the disc above that level. i dont really mind a hybrid procedure...but take it easy on the lifting weights part. i guess focus more on swimming...

2006-weightlifting accident. 2008-2 level disectomy/laminotomy. completely healed. 2010: car accident. reherneated 2011-diagnosed with two level DDD L4-L5 L5-S1 2011-ESI performed then 2 level disectomy/lami 12/11: Diagnosed with spinal infection. Currenly on antibiotics (ivy). changes in mri due to infection. rushed to the hospital. got surgical drainage and a laminectomy at l5 and another partial laminectomy at l4.

Tomorrow is the day!
I will be having my surgery at 1030 tomorrow morning! Not sure what the wifi situation will be like at the hospital and how I will be feeling, but hope to start an outcome post soon.

Shawn in Wisconsin 35 YO 2007 DDD L5S1 2007-2010 7 Inj and PT 2011 2 Inj. Aug. Inj did not help at all. MRI. XRay neg. Sept MRI Discogram L5S1 pain was 10 of 10. L4L5 pain was 2-3. 1994 - Fused A/P from T3 to L4 with THRS rods (13 discs) Terrible operation at 38 years old 1996 - Rods taken out. 2011 - DDD L4/L5 significant degenerative changes L sided disc protrusion with foraminal encroachment, not central narrowing., L5/S1-mild disc bulging without foraminal narrowing. 2011 - right sided transforaminal injection for sciatica and it worked, yeah! 2011- Scheduled for 2 ADR's with Dr. Rajakumar/India but cancelled until Feb. or March.

50 y.o. WW athlete- triathlete, runner, tennis 2008-0nset of pain..MRI-DDD L4-L5 annular tear. Pain labeled discogenic with radiation to unilateral hip, no radiculopathy 2009-facet inj, radiograph ablation, SI joint injections, cryoablation stubborn no relief 2010-retired d/t pain. more injections 2011-IDET of L3-L5. Pain unchanged, up 50 lbs! 2011-Lumbar ADR recommended by Ortho and 2 neuros. In appeals w/ins. May choose Europe for M6 Need to lose lbs
