Didnt know where else to post this. I watched the ABC special and they said they use a "small incision". hmmm. Mine is 6 inches long (i measured for the purpose of this post..lol) It goes from the base of my belly button to about an inch past my pubic bone. It has been a large part of my healing process. The incision is still a bit numb and about an inch on either side is numb a bit as well. I know they ran into a bit of a problem with my kidney but i was told before hand that it would run from my belly button to my pubic bone. Anyone else have an incision this big?
I watched the dance done on ABC, very nicely done I might add. . I could barely get out of bed for over a week because of my incision and stomack pain.
Would love feedback. Have a great day!

My original incision is just two inches. But the repair surgery for my kidney problem leaves me with a seven inch incision.

What happenend to your kidney?

All the best,
Florian

Due to seven previous abdominal surgeries, my incision was/is not small and dainty. It runs from one hip bone to the other. This time; however, much of my scarring and adhesions are gone. Treat your incision with pure wheat germ oil and it will heal quite nicely.

Crystal,

My incision is also quite long, about 6-7". One good thing is that it never really caused too much pain or bothered me. I think I was so upset about my leg and the unbearable burning pain that even if it hurt, I was unaware of it. Was this my silver cloud lining?

Chrystal, I have burning/numbness in my left thigh, but alot of my preop pain was down the back of my left thigh. I was told it was my siatic (sp) nerve which also runs the front of the thigh. It may take a year to come back to normal. The worst is to touch it, it really burns then.
I have a pelvic kidney which because it has never bothered me or caused a problem i forgot to mention to my surgeon, Dr. Gurr. He said he had heard of it before but never seen one. I guess they are twice the size of a normal kidney (which i didnt know). He called in a specialist during my surgery to look at it and ran some dye through it. It works just fine. I thought maybe the incision went a bit lower because of it.
I have been using Vit E on my scar. I think i will try the wheat germ though.
I have a post under "surgical outcomes".

Prior to working with my naturopath, I used vitamin E. In my humble opinion, wheat germ oil works much better. It doesn't improve instantly, but with attention each day, after a few weeks you should notice a substantial improvement. It's good to know that your kidney is functioning normally. Massage, gentle swimming, mild yoga and chiropractic care improved my sciatic discomfort.

Mine is 6 inches (hmmm, anyway!), but the incision was glued, not stapled or sewn, and it healed quickly, and never leaked. The area is still numb, and I understand some of it will always be numb, but some nerve endings regenerate at a rate of 1mm per month, so some feeling is returning.
