FINALLY some details--while concrete preliminary data is still absent, study criteria and procedure are detailed. This website also gives an overview on first, second, third and fourth generation discs, and deals with lumbar as well as cervical disc trials (for now their lumbar Mobi is not available in the US)...worth a look. www.SecondGenerationDisc.com provides details on the Mobi-C clinical study

Austin, TX (March 20, 2006)
Following the recent announcement of the FDA approved IDE clinical study for the Mobi-C Cervical Disc, LDR Spine released a website to provide patients and surgeons with information on artificial discs and the ongoing clinical study.

The site, www.SecondGenerationDisc.com, currently focuses on the Mobi-C cervical study and will ultimately provide information on the lumbar IDE study for the Mobidisc, scheduled to begin in late 2006.

In addition to providing Mobi-C clinical study details, www.SecondGenerationDisc.com serves as a destination for patients with basic questions regarding cervical anatomy, degenerative disc disease, disc history, and the future of artificial disc technology. The site will also provide a surgeon locator for patients to find physicians participating in the United States clinical evaluation.

Second generation discs evolved from first generation disc designs, making improvements to implant mobility and ease of surgical insertion. The Mobi-Cs polyethylene insert provides controlled mobility that respects the instantaneous center of rotation and closely replicates anatomic movement, allowing for six degrees of freedom. Mobi-C also allows one-step implantation, which significantly simplifies the surgical technique.

The Mobi-C clinical study will follow nearly 600 patients for two years and includes up to 20 medical centers throughout the United States.
