Default lumbar M6, Clavel, and Boeree

does anyone have first or second hand knowledge of anyone with issues after a one level lumbar M6?

or not have good things to say about Clavel and/or Boeree?

I can't find a damn thing other than spinches issues w/ Nuffield... usually those who don't do well are the most vocal, so I'm taking this as a good sign. But surely there's SOMEONE??? Harrison, you intimated that revisions have been done in the US on another thread...?? Please call or PM me if necessary.

just trying to get all the info I can... looking like an M6 from one of those 2 is going to be my best option. too many concerns about Stenum, don't want to go to Germany, don't want a chromium disc (activ-L/maverick/prodisc/charite').

thanks to all in advance.

mcjagger -

thanks, but i think i've seen all of those - and not a negative word to be found. like i said, it seems that people with other surgeons have posted of bad outcomes - but not these 2 nor Pimenta (but the N is small for him).

They will come with time (volume of tourist patients, some of whom will post on the internet).

You can maximise the chance of success with everything you've done to get the right surgical option but you're probably at the point now where remaining risk is uncontrollable.

Unfortunately it's still significant risk.

Not that I don't wish you the best but you get to a point where all you can do is tee everything up, close your eyes and pull the trigger on surgery if thats the path you're gonna take.

I flat out asked both Boeree and Clavel the question as to revisions, failures, etc.
You guys don't actually speak to me but ummmmm, my hubby says that I'm not a sugar coater. I'm known for being blunt.

I wouldn't let either skirt the issue and neither tried to.
Both told me they have done one revision and both were due to patient error.
Meaning, they had some kind of accident that caused somekind of damage.
Boeree told me to "search the internet, as you know people will post negatives faster than posititves". I did this. There sure doesn't seem to be alot of negativity going on.

Also, I should post this on my thread but I decided to go with Clavel.
It's been such a hard decision and so many members on here sent me emails telling me of their experiences.
For me what pushed me Clavel's way is the fact that I now have learned that I have three cervicals that need ADR's too. When it comes to cervicals, I want a neurologist not an orthodic doctor.
If I would have only needed the lumbar done, I probably would have gone with Dr. Boeree.
Just speak to him once and you'll be hooked. Incredibly knowledgeable, heart of gold, never makes you feel like a pain (and believe me, I emailed him a zillion questions), can't say enough nice things about him.
Clavel, same thing, very knowledgeable, always answers my emails, has called me several times without a charge, and has a great sense of humor.
THEEE deciding factor came down to neurologist/orthapedic.

Since three cervicals are in order, I'm going with Dr. Clavel.
It's the hardest decision I have ever made!
My husband literally just purchased our plane tickets 15 minutes ago.
Of course, if it doesn't turn out well, I will instantly think that I should have gone to Boeree but I'm gonna do that no matter which one I pick.

Both were great to speak to...but Boeree is more in depth and doesn't mind going into "the details" if you want to hear it. Best $350 I ever spent!

Vicki -
Just had my consult w/ Clavel this AM. SO easy to talk to, made it clear he didn't mind additional questions AT ALL and to call/email whenever I needed to. Said he's done 150 lumbar M6's after good experience w/ the cervical. he didn't do lumbar ADR's for a while b/c he didn't like the design of any of the discs.

Having issues w/ payment and hearing back from Boeree/Jo.... I think you had mentioned that Boeree had a pending vacation? Anyway, I will talk to him too, but prefer Spain for many reasons.

What kind of plane ticket did you get Vicki? When is your surg date? If I go, we may overlap!

Hooch -

I've come to realize that... and that I may destroy my chance at a personal injury suit (from MVA) by going overseas. and TRUST me, i'm the biggest risk/benefit analyzer you'll meet b/c that's basically my job, to analyze r/b ratio and make fast decisions.

so - the potential reward for a faster, more predictable recovery is worth more $$$ (faster return to work) and MORE than money to me in terms of my life and career. there are risks w/ either procedure both short and long term. i can't predict any of those things. i think i have taken the appropriate steps, and still have a few more things to check on prior to making a decision. Should have most if not all done w/in 7-10 days....

Doc,

We rented an apartment which was less money than the hotel fee Clavel offered.
I know they do this as a courtesy so we don't have to hunt for a place to stay.
I went to vacation rental buy owner. com which is VRBO and .com after it.
Not sure how that is going to show on the forum.
We found a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment for less than the hotel charge.
Contacted several people on that site and many got back to us. They were very nice.
The hotel had two beds but in the same room.
That's not gonna work...the hubby can saw trees down with his snoring so I definitely wanted a separate room for him. I will need my sleep!

I did find it funny that one place to rent was right on the beach.
It said that the beach was nude "clothing optional".
My hubby and I had a good laugh about it.
I could see him sitting on the balcony with binoculars while I lay there yelling for help in the bedroom. LOL It made for a good laugh and yes, I said we weren't staying there!

I will be in Barcelona on Oct. 2nd and we are staying until Oct. 23. If you are there then, we must meet.
That would be nice

Vicki,

I just told my wife that someone on this site was going to Barcelona in a couple of weeks. She'll be green with envy for days. As my surgery was cervical, I was up and around immediately upon discharge from Quiron, which enabled us to tour the city for the next several days. We both loved Barcelona, and it was one of the best times that we've ever had.

I won't bore you with everything that we did, but please allow me to suggest our two favorite sites; both courtesy of the great architect Antoni Gaudi. Hands down our favorite was Parc Guell; our second was Familia Sagrada. I know that ya'll are busy right now, but I would encourage you to do a little research on those sites before leaving, and visit them if you're able.

Another poster on this site that had surgery with Dr Clavel stayed by the beach last ... August. She was 59 at the time, and a former lingerie model. She got the urge and sat out on the beach au natural a number of times.

Here's hoping for a successful surgery and hoping that ya'll have a great time in Barcelona. And if doc is there too, I hope ya'll can hook up!

Good luck, Jeff

I hope with the lumbar that I will be able to see
some sites. Praying the vertigo was cured today and doesn't come back.
