I am not 100% certain of the info I have regarding split vertebral bodies and cessation of multi-level Mavericks in the clinical trial.

They certainly are working on a shorter keel version since they have run into problems with the longer keel. I don't know the status of it.

Yes, the ProDisc has a shorter keel than the Maverick.

The Mavrick keel has split vetebrae in mltilevel applications and that part of the study has been stoped. This info comes from my Dr. last December. He is involved in next generation disc designs like the mobi-disc. I cannot point you to any documented info on this. Ask some probing questions next time you see your Dr like, How has this disc performed in the multilevel portion of its study? What has been the worst complication from implanting the Mavrick disc? Mark is right, and the design is probaly fine for single level patients, but what happens if you really need 2 levels to start with, and you pain is not fully relieved by doing only 1 level.

Get it right the first time. Just because your Dr. is close and easiest to get to may not make him the best choice for your future.

Good luck with your decison.

Pat

This discussion raises an interesting point. Until this last trip to Germany, I had thought that Bertagnoli would not implant a Charite. I discovered that he has used Charite in a very special case. The patient needed ADR next to a fusion and there was a screw that would have interfered with the ProDisc keel. So, they decided to use Charite, with great success.

Remember that all of the differences between the devices have advantages and disadvantages.

MobiDisc is interesting. It was presented and discussed extensively at Dr. Zeegers' *** luncheon. I've attended private presentations with MobiDisc engineers. Note that they made a very short keel, while Maverick started with an extra-deep keel. There is much to discuss about the different designs... can't do it now...
