Well I went for my ADR today. I actually made it and in not to bad of shape...but they kicked me out!!! My white blood count was high (16.7) and my doc said it was too risky to do the procedure with that high of a WBC. I went straight from the hospital to my PCP and he couldn't find any obvious signs of infection anywhere! What gives? All the stress and anxiety for nothing! Now I have to wait 6-8 more weeks, that is if I cn get this WBC thing cleared up. DAMN IT!!!!!
Well Dave..you beat me to the punch buddy. Best of luck to you man.

Sorry to hear the news... I know you want the operation behind you. On the bright side, in 6-8 weeks you'll be a new man!

John,
Surely there has to be some medical reason for a high white blood cell count. I can honestly tell you that I understand your frustration as my story has lasted 3 years and just a week ago, they moved my surgery back a month. Good luck and try to remember everything happens for a reason.

Bummer... but it sounds like you have a good attitude about it. For some people, getting geared up for surgery is a huge ordeal... for others, it's just another day in the park... OK, not maybe that trivial.

The only thing that matters is long-term outcome. You'll get it figured out... surgery rescheduled and will move on. Sorry about the delay. Hang in there...

D'oh! Really sorry you're going through this. It's like a slap in the face after dealing with the pain and everything else leading up to the procedure.

On the plus side, if the WBC test is correct, you didn't want to be under the knife anyhow. Also, now's your chance to let it go, relax, breathe deep (remember, I told you that before!) and maybe go in the next time with a more relaxed mindset. Have a Valium, on me. ;-)

Stress can raise your WBC. We have white cells that aren't normally in the circulatory system. They are "hanging" out in the periphery so won't be in the count. When we have stress the extra cells start circulating.

Exercise can raise the levels (I guess with a bad back this isn't the case) as can steriods.

A lot of hospitals do blood and other pre-admission tests days before surgery just so stress levels are lower than on the big day.....

I had all my workups done last Friday for my Fusion surgery tomorrow afternoon.

Best of Luck!!!
