I have my first apt to start PT next week. Needless to say, I'm a bit worried since I've read some stories about PT doing harm as well as good. I am going to take it slow and listen to my body, but wanted to know if anyone out there had any advice. My surgery was 3 1/2 months ago and all is steady going for now. Don't want to do more damage though. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Zoeny,

Here is a link to a good discussion we had in the past: Physical Therapy Post-ADR

I believe Alastair has a link in the FAQs with a lot of great info.

Good luck!

Justin

Zoe
As you know, I'm also a hybrid girl, now 5 months post-op.I started clinical pilates with a physical therapist at just 3 weeks post-op. Now I know there are people who are shaking their heads at this but my surgeon has had wonderful results with the program he and the head therapist have designed. In fact they've just published an article about it all.
So in my opinion, at 3 months you should be fine. It's amazing how much fitter you'll feel when your core muscles are strengthened again.
Goood luck, Cathy

Hi zoeny,
usually physical therapy is put off until six weeks after your ADR surgery.

There's a whole host of stuff in the FAQs, please visit it and pick and choose what you want from there.

You are quite right to "Listen to your body", and the moment anything that feels as if it is starting to hurt then stop doing it and don't be told to do it by anybody.

It is your body, and your recovery for the rest of your life.
Best,
Alastair
