Hi all. Sorry I've been gone from here for a while, but getting back to life has taken a lot of energy and time (including pt 3x weekly). I'm hitting the three month mark this week, going in next week for the x-rays to send to Zeegers. I believe I'm now pain free. I wanted to go off all my meds last month, but my doc said my vitals were elevated which indicated pain underneath the pain meds, and wanted me to stay on until I stabilized. I bought one of those little home machines, and it looks to me like things have calmed down. So this week it's time to go off everything. By the time I get my x-rays next week, I hope to be medication free. I'll let you all know on the report, but based on the way I feel I believe everything is A-Okay. I can't feel any pain. I can touch my toes. I can twist and stretch with no pain. I've increased my lifting slowly to reasonable amounts. Sitting and driving (even in unbearable LA traffic) doesn't hurt. My flexibility is almost to what it was in my pre-back pain days. So that's the report and I'll keep you posted. I expect a little ugliness this week going off the meds -- but I've only been on pain meds for four months so hopefully it won't be too brutal. I got my back, back. Now I want all of me back -- body, mind, spirit -- and a full life. So .... here we go.

Excellent Mel glad to hear you are doing so well. Keep up the progress. Sure must be comforting having all the decision making and ultimate surgery behind you. Now you can just concentrate on getting better. Good Luck.

Melody

That's wonderful to hear! Good for you! No pain. Wow! What a concept!

A word of caution: It only took me two or three weeks to take enough Percocet to give me two yucky days of withdrawal when I quit. As you've probably seem, I'm sure, people react very differently to pain meds and going off them and your results may certainly vary! If you feel really crummy, don't hesitate to back off more slowly or consult again about possible strategies to mitigate your symptoms. I sincerely hope there's no pain under the meds and you come out of it smelling nothing but roses!

Melody,
Nice to hear you're making steady improvement.
I'm tapering down the meds as well; been on opiates for years. My PM has me on a very gradual tapering schedule that will have me off meds completely.
Here's to hope (clink).

God bless,
3 Level Jeff
