That's what I'm getting too.

I'll expand to make sure I don't get caught on the minimum word restriction.
The original argument for ADR is that the mechanics of the spine are affected by a fusion when all of the motion and loading is moved from one disk to adjacent disks. Hybrids balance the risks of having multiple fusions against having a whole lot of load and motion from the fused level now being transferred to an ADR. Ideally, if you had your choices, multiple ADRs beat hybrids, so they're only used if one or more levels can't take an ADR. Then again, if you had the ability to choose, you'd probably choose to have a perfect back and be off having fun instead of reading this.

Little more info on why I'm getting a hybrid: My L5-S1 area has moderate facet deterioration, and due to the risks of movement across those deteriorated joint surfaces, a fusion in that area will reduce the risk of increased pain (vs an ADR at that level). Simply put, that level is too far gone for the movement of an ADR. There is so little movement at a normal L5-S1 anyway, that it shouldn't restrict me much. With 2 ADRs above, I'll be in much better shape now and down the road than I would have been with a 3 level fusion that would be sure to cause further damage up the spine. Sounded like the best option for me. Six weeks till new spine day and counting....
