Does anyone know whay Dr. B and other doctors in Europe insist paitents wear a brace for several weeks postop? From what I understand, doctors in the US do not.
They say to avoid twisting for the first few weeks, wouldn't a brace help prevent this motion?

I wore a soft corset type for 2 weeks post op. Worked for me! And yes, my surgery was in the States!

I was given a very stiff brace. Wore it all the time for 3-4 wks, then whenever I was active for 3-4 months. Twisting, same deal, none for 3-4 wks. Surgery done in Texas.

Yes, this is the reason for giving patients corsets and supports, it stops them doing twisting motions and sudden bending motions after surgery. It also does give some support to the wound whilst healing.
Best, Alastair

Ouch,
Scott and I have the same doctor at TBI. Although my surgery has been pushed to July, I have already received details on getting fitted and measure for a brace. Kevin

I had my brace on for three weeks post-op because of my incision. I felt like if I didn't have it on my guts were going to fall out

12 weeks with brace. Dr. B was pretty adament about wearing it for the full 12 week period. Started weaning myself of brace at week 8 by taking out some of the popsicle stick looking bars and replacing with weaker ones and then eventually none. Worked well for me, by week 12 I was out of it and never looked back.
My US doc told me at week 6 I could stop wearing but I followed Dr. B. instead since he has been doing this much longer. Bill

I had surgery today and Dr. Blumenthak saud that I would need to wear a corset style brace with strings in the back I am not suer how long I will need to wear it.
