Man I just stumbled on this video....found it pretty interesting!
I remember reading an article on attempts at intervertebral disc transplants in sheep once. If I remember right it worked for a few years then deteriorated but they were hopeful that things could be tweaked to provide permanent solutions.... The idea in this video though seems interesting. It says they've grown the disc from cells of a sheep's spine and it also contains polymers, collagen and an alginate centre...whatever that is? They implanted the grown disc into rats and it was accepted and grew as a biological part of that rat. Check out the link: Organic Spinal Discs Tackle Chronic Back Pain Issues - YouTube Link to non video info: http://www.cornellneurosurgery.org/p...sScopeNews.pdf

Seems they've had some success with this already. I should have checked this out ages ago, i just stumbled accross a study in a local news paper of all places and thought that transplants didn't work yet so dismissed following it up. I'd bet I'm looking an idiot here and this is common knowledge to people on this site....but I wondered if anyone knows anything about attempts at transplants in the lumbar region? Hoping someone with better understanding can give a heads up on all this...
Here's some disc transplant links for humans in the cervical: Spinal Disc Transplants For Chronic Back Pain! BBC NEWS | Health | Spinal disc transplant 'success' Any insight from you guys would be appreciated!

Thanks posting and sharing. Did you note the article dates on the link you posted (2007, 2008)? It's good progress...but these developments take a lifetime to refine and launch!
That said, there have been some huge developments and milestone achievements since then. And kudos to Slackwater for reviewing and posting the articles on this subject in this forum.

see:
http://www.adrsupport.org/forums/f50...rafting-11664/ The fellows from Hong Kong / China have done the replacement(s) under testing conditions with apparently positive results for a while (years). There is a lot to read and reference. |

Hey Harrison, yeah I noticed when I went back this was some time ago and it led me to wonder if the lumbar transplant had been done yet?
Slackwater many thanks, 10 year follow up! I'm an idiot for not chasing this up before. For some reason I had it in my head that the transplants didn't survive long. Reading this is great though ![]() Is there any info on biological replacements of any kind working in the lumbar region? Thanks for your input and info. I'm secretly hoping that over the next 10-15 years they find it's possible to remove an ADR and replace with a transplanted biological disc but I guess that's just a bit far fetched. Revisions and removal already posing such problems and also wonder if the vertebral endplates would still react appropriately given they'd have been attached to an ADR for years.... Cheers

I actually emailed those docs mentioned in the studies. The Cornell guy and the chinese doctor a long time ago. I didn't get a reply at all.
