What assistance is needed when traveling for ADR?

I'm contemplating international travel (likely Dr. Clavel in Spain) and am wondering if it is necessary to take someone with you?

Certainly it would be convenient and reassuring to have someone there, but I get the impression that Dr. Clavel expects you to stay in the hospital for 5 days anyway, so it seems like you wouldn't need outside assistance during that time.

What have other people done?

Having somebody with you is very helpful. There are all kinds of small things that get so much easier if somebody is with you. Everything from getting your shoes on and opening doors to carrying luggage. I think it can be managed alone, but with somebody helping you with the practicalities, you can focus all your attention on the tough part, which is recovery.

During the pre-op and immediate post-op, you'll almost definitely be turning to the hospital personnel for anything you need. I typically had that time to myself to sightsee. Go to the hospital and check on Laura, sightsee a bit, drop by the hospital, sightsee, and repeat multiple times per day for the first few days.

Towards the end of the stay in the hospital, immediately after you're discharged and during your travel home, you'll really wish you had someone to help you. If you don't want someone to stay with you the whole time, you should try to get someone to come during those last few days. Also, you'll really want help at home for some time, but I hope you've already picked up on that.
