Just came back from Germany

It's a beautiful day and I can be in it again, without chronic pain! After four years of low back pain and siatic pain, artificial disc replacement was the best decision I made. Now, I get up in the morning with no stiffness or pain, no nerv pain or tingling in my foot either. Looking forward to play with my kids again.Yes, I have some surgical pain but this is by far better then the chronic pain I had. I just wanted to let you know that there is hope out there. My live is much better now already!:jacks:

Wow, glad you are better! I assume you got the M6. Happy that you had a good outcome, given that you went to a Stenum-affiliated doctor! Peace and comfort to you in all the days ahead.

Hi Harrison, I went to Dr. Bierstedt because of his experience in artificial disc replacement and good reviews about him on german forums.
My disc is called Mobidisc L with spike like ankering in the vertebra, I got this model because it was the best choice for my back since I have hyperlordosis and a M6 had a slight chance to slip.

Thanks for clarifying. It's been a while since we have anyone here with a Mobi. Did you have a choice of various discs -- or did the doc highly recommend that one because of your hyperlordosis?

I always liked the idea of having a surgeon that has experience with different disc designs...

BTW, for you and others, the Deutsche-specific Mobi information:

Claudia,

Welcome back and congratulations! Good luck on your continued recovery.

Thanks Jeff!

Harrisson,
I know that he implants a variety of discs exept the charite. For me he recommended the Mobidisc. I know of other people who got different discs. What I liked about Dr. Bierstedt is that he trys to find the disc that works for your individual spine.
On a different note, I noticed that I had some more muscle pain driving my car, I'm on no medication right know. Maybe I should just slow down a bit.

Hi Claudia, I had surgery in Germany (Dr. Bierstedt) in late September, and I had a lot of muscle pain in my legs for about 2 months. It's almost all gone now, and I feel very good. What symptoms did you have post surgery?

Claudia K. 01-28-2013 02:10 PM

Hi John,
Good to hear you're feeling better. when I came out of surgery the nerv pain and the chronic pain I had mainly on my right lower back was gone completely. I did however wake up with tingling on top of my left foot. That took about one week to go away and Dr. Bierstedt told me that this can happen from just manipulating the nervs and that this was only temporarly.
I do have some muscle soreness and spasm above my operated level, I feel it the most when I get out of my car. It has gotten alot better and I just started physical therapy to strenghten my muscles. Did you go to physical therapy when you came back from Germany? I think we are still improving.

Yes, I did go for PT and massage. I went twice a week for 2 months, and now I'm down to once a week massage, and PT every 2 weeks. I am feeling very good recently, hardly any pain at all anymore.

That is great news!
