How much help is needed and for how long for the simple things like:

Getting in and out of bed?

Getting on and off the toilet?

Getting cleaned up (shower)?

Getting in and out of vehicles?

No bending or twisting for 6 weeks? Is that possible?

Judy 07-05-2005 05:44 AM

I was able to do all this for myself same day
(actually my surgery was late in the day on Saturday and was brought to my room by 11:00 a.m. next morning and within 15 minutes I needed to go to the bathroom and they let me do this on my own) as surgery. I went very very slow and made sure I did not twist.
I don't know if because I am a very independent person and needed to this for myself but there were no restrictions and I did not have any problems. The hardest thing I had was putting on socks I found this very difficult and time consuming and usually my husband could not stand to watch me do this so he did it for the first week.

Hi Patrick,
I point you to the FAQs, all the pre- surgery and post surgery hints and tips are in their
best,

Alastair,

I appreciate your advice to the FAQ but I did look through that and did not find the specific answers to my specific questions in there. There is plenty of related information in there, but not the specifics I was looking for. Is there an issue here about asking questions if a related bit of information might be found here already? What if there is a more updated answer to the question and it is not in the FAQ? Are you a FAQ bully...LOL

Hi Patrick,
I live in the FAQ`s you know so have a good idea whats in there - - -lol http://adrsupport.org/groupee_common...icon_smile.gif

I do update anything which is new and correct old addresses or Drs etc. Its quite time consuming so this is why eveyone gets the "Welcome Message" from me and a link to the FAQ`s as the other pages are so "Precious" for new information breaking daily. You are NOT the first by any manner of means to do this so don`t worry. Its a matter of taking your time and looking with care

In and out of vehicles is in Post Op info

In the shower I assume as most showers yours is a Walk in" so must think its to do with the wound -- - - you are given waterproof "Cling Film" like material to cover your dressing and wound whilst under the shower

Getting in and out of bed(for RHS)is roll on your right side use your elbow and make your legs a right angle swing your legs over the side of the bed and you are sitting up, just stand from there. Reverse that for getting into bed

Suggested help for the toilet like raised seat is in Pre-op FAQ`

OK in and out of bed and the shower is not there so maybe just post for the things that are NOT in the FAQ`s - -- -we aim to please http://adrsupport.org/groupee_common...icon_smile.gif http://adrsupport.org/groupee_common...icon_smile.gif
