Dean's surgery is Thurs. and we got terrible news today. Dean's sister's husband, who lives on our street, contracted a virus that may take his life within the next 24-48 hours. His name is Gary and he's in his mid-30's. I'm not only in shock, but terrified for my family's health as well, as the hospital has yet to determine just what is attacking his system. He's on life support now at Yale New Haven Hospital, the same hospital where Dean is having his ADR in four days. I can't help but to wonder if we've been exposed to this virus. My two year old and I had vomiting and diarrhea Friday night but seem better now. Our 9 month old did not get sick. I don't know much about this, but Yale did not do the nose swab for MRSA. So far, Dean is not sick with anything (probably because he's been confined to the bedroom in pain for two days.) We thought we had a lot on our plate going into this surgery before, but suddendly things are 100 times more stressful. Any thoughts and prayers for our brother-in-law, his wife and 2 little ones would be so appreciated. We'll keep you posted on how things transpire.

Update: I was told this morning that they don't know if it's a virus now or an infection. They're filtering his blood and that seems to be helping a little. He's still on life support though.
As for Dean, not only is he having to face the stress of his upcoming surgery, he lost a lifelong friend a few weeks ago and now may lose his brother-in-law. We just need to get him to his surgery, healthy, because he says laying around in pain with all of this going on is the worst way to deal with things, for him. http://adrsupport.org/groupee_common...icon_frown.gif Kim |
Dave and Justin, thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. It really does help and we appreciate it. -Kim

my prays are with you and your family. the force will be with you on dean's up coming surgery. and prays and thoughts are with gary and his family that he make a full recovery. chuck |
I have bad news. They've determined what our brother-in-law has, and it's the rare flesh eating disease. They have to move him to surgery to remove a mass in his chest, but moving him down to surgery may kill him.
Send Dean lots of love at this tough time... |
May God be with all of you through the trials of the upcoming days; through Gary's illness and Dean's surgery, and you Kim, as the caregiver, to have the strength to hold it together, to be there for the best and the worst. Take Care.
