Hi,
I had a compression fracture of two vertebrae: th 12 and L1 and I would like to learn something about that kind of injury, especially from people which suffer the same.
What about treatment (medicine, exercises) and prognosis, any complications?. Is it possible to full recovery? And what about damage of soft tissue (intervertebral disc)? Are they able regenerate?

thanks and regards,
martin

Hi Martin,

I had a compression fracture of T-12 15 months ago. It was very painful for the first 8 weeks and then began to get better once the bone healed.

I have seen many doctors since then and they all say it should be ok as long as I keep my back muscles strong. If not I would need to be fused there.

I wore a huweeit (sp?) brace for 8 weeks the type that has a frame that goes above you chest and below you hips on the front with a strap in the back. Did not have to wear it when I was laying down so you can guess that what I did because sitting was almost impossible.

I do a lot of upper back exercises to keep my back from wanting to curve forward into Kyphosis if it wasnt for the L5-S1 problem I would have been OK but as you can see I had to have surgery there. Hope the rest of your spine made it through what ever caused this trama.

Welcome to the forum and by the way how did this happen?
