L4-S1 herniated discs + C3-C7 bulging discs

Hi Guys,
I have questions that surgeons seems to avoid. I got a couple of estimate from germany and france for 2-3 disc replacements. In addition to herniated discs i have a giant osteophite spur on L5 postero-inferior endplate compressing my S1 nerve root and I asked surgeons if they would be able to take it out when they do the disc replacement from an anterior approach and only one said he couldn't due to the angle being to challenging and the other 2 avoid the question but say yes they can do the disc replacement. So I wonder if the other 2 surgeons are just blowing smoke and want to do the surgery knowing that I will come out better but not totally fixed since the spur will still compress the sciatica nerve.
Any of you had a large posterior spur bloquing the canal and was your surgeon able to take it out from the front when he did the disc replacement or does it have to be done from the back like another one said?
many thanks
y

Hey Shogun17. There are two doctors I know for sure can decompress osteophytes from the anterior approach. These are Dr. Biren Desai and Dr. Andreas Schmitz. I know because the international coordinator for Dr. Desai told a facebook group I'm a member of that this is so. And Dr. Schmitz was my surgeon and I asked him that question. Who was it that you asked these questions to? I feel like Dr. Clavel and Dr. Rischke also do this, but I'm not 100%. You can also have a posterior decompression after the disc replacement as well. They literally flip your body over and go back in. For sure make sure that the surgeon is gonna remove that bone spur either during the ADR or immediately afterwards with a decompression.
Sometimes after an ADR is placed a bone spur reveals itself. I've read stories of people having a decompression 2 weeks after ADR because their post ADR x-rays revealed the new osteophyte. Not ideal but this stuff happens and it can be taken care of.

Hi there and thank you for your input. Dr Haque in Celebration FL told me he couldn't get rid of the osteophyte from an anterior approach because it was too challenging. I did send my dvd to Dr Desai and I'm waiting for an answer.

Thanks again for the feedback much appreciated.
