Was wondering if anyone knew of a way or site where you could see if a doctor has any pending malpractice suits. I see lots of sites, but they want about $30 and you don't really know what you'll get. I have checked with the state medical board and my doctor is "in good standing". I have no reason to think there is anything out there, but probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check....

Check to see if your county superior court has a website with access to at least listings of cases. On the website, you won't get specifics of the case so it will be more a matter of knowing how many suits have been filed. Usually, the local medical board will have info about malpractice suits settled or judged against a physician. Two caveats though: neurosurgery is a high risk profession and it is a rare neurosurgeon who has not had a suit filed against him/her; malpractice suits may be settled because of pressure from malpractice liability insurance attornies and not from any wrongdoing.

Malpractice information is available on your state Board of Medicine's website, if they have one.

Such as in North Carolina :
http://www.ncmedboard.org/

You can such under Disciplinary Reports to see if actions have been taken by the Med Board against a specific Physician and why...

I agree with Sahuaro there are way to many frivolous lawsuits, so unless an action was taken by the Medical Board against the Physician, I wouldnt put a ton of credence into a civil suit.

Hope that helps...
