Counting the days...

Hi all, I'm scheduled for a two level cervical ADR on Sept 5 at Stenum in Bremen Germany. I'm getting the Spinal Kinetics M6. I can't decide if I'm relieved to be moving forward, anxious over the surgery or excited at the prospect of getting back to "normal". Would love to hear from anyone who has had the M6...or anyone scheduled for surgery the same week (would love to have an online "rehab" buddy)....

Welcome...

Hey Lisa! Welcome to our humble global community. You may have seen these past posts, I hope it’s not too much information at this stage:

You’re a few weeks away. I wish you a comfy, business-class sort of flight! And of course, a smooth flight home and steady recovery. When you can, pls insert a signature line explaining your spine condition (see the user CP, a blank link, in upper left).

Good luck and peace to you in the days ahead!

Lisa,

Stenum and everyone there are great and you will have the best care and get a great ADR. I had two lumbar mavericks put in back in january 08 at Stenum and am now totally pain free. There were three others in my group that had the M6 put in. One was a 60 something year old lady who had one and is back to normal riding her bike all over the world, literally. One had 3 M6's in his neck and is back golfing, fishing and other things he enjoys. The other one had 2 M6's and 2 Mavericks. He is doing better, but still relies on some occasional meds.

I wish you all the best and for a speedy recovery.

Mark

Harrison,
I'm pretty sure I have read everything you listed so I feel like I am up to speed "intellectually" but thanks for the summary.

Mark,
It is good to hear from someone who has actually been there. I've had some trouble administratively but I'm sure everything will work out. It's good to hear how active you all are. I am a divemaster, sailor, hunter and horseback rider and live in fear that I will not be able to do the things I love.

Surgery in 9 days...

Hello Lisa,
I am due to go into surgery Sept. 18th Lumbar region L4/5 Possible disc replacement, possible fusion, L3/4 Disc replacement Prodisc. I feel like I am going out of my skin and hustling to get things done before my surgery. I have been making lists of things that need to be taken care of before I go in. I am having my surgery in Hollywood Kaiser by Dr. Fribough. Sept. 9th is my pre-op date and blood donation.
So, we will be 9 days apart for our surgeries. I am guessing that can be a world apart as far as recovery goes. But, I would love to hear your progress.
Sounds like you are in good hands over there.
Abbe

Hi Abbe,

Good Luck to you! Let's stay in touch during our rehab...everyone needs a "rehab buddy". I'm from Montana but I currently live in Qatar which is one of the reason's I ended up choosing Germany for my surgery. The other is that I need a two level and they've done thousands there.
Aside from the surgery itself my biggest concern is the not being able to drive for two months post surgery, I hate being dependent on anyone!
I haven't been on this site long enough to know how to do private e-mails...is that possible?

Hi Lisa,

I am a very independent person as well and that is most definitely one of my concerns. I live in a very rural area and small town. I don't have any family that lives near but my sister is flying out for my first week of recovery. I have gone through the 6 weeks of not driving before with C-Sections. But that was 14 & 18 years ago. I will try and see if I can find how to PM (Private Message you) and give you my regular e-mail address.
