Really, the answers can range from what you are suspecting, your knee pain is entirely referred pain from your back, through Harrision's answer, your knee has some irritation caused by misalignment in the back, to the far opposite extreme, your knee IS messed up and could even be contributing to/driving your back pain. An MRI and exam should rule out that end of the extreme and might allow you to decide if Harrison's answer is more close to being correct for you, but the only way to be sure is to fix one or the other and see what happens to the pain level in the one not fixed. Sorry to be so negative.
