To add a bit to Rich's post:

Source your turmeric very carefully. Some of the traditional sources have their turmeric growing in soil where arsenic salts have been concentrated due to long-term watering practices. Some even have lead chromate added to enhance the yellow color.

We, Laura and I, have also used willow-bark tea as natural source of the same compound as aspirin. Our experience is that the tea probably has a slightly more mild effect than an aspirin tablet but is probably a bit healthier than popping the tablets. Prepare the tea by boiling an excess of the bark in a pot and pour off what you want to drink.
