Maddie, typically you'll find that doctors will insist upon the injections Terry talks about to confirm that facets are a pain source then try the rhizotomy (nerve ablation or "burning") if the injections confirm the facets as being painful but don't provide enough relief.

You can find out more about rhizos here or in other places. There's radio frequency, cold, and laser versions of the technique as well as other ideas if you look hard enough. They all do basically the same thing, kill the nerve, but most of the proponents of the non-RF techniques suggest the alternatives do a better job or are easier to control.
